Introducing our new Cardigan Welsh Corgis!

I was bereft after Coder passed away in March. Life without dogs in it has no structure and no meaning. So in April I started looking around for our next dog. I found a regional breeder (through the Cardigan Welsh Corgi Club of America) who was looking to place older dogs. We knew we did not want a puppy (Coder was a challenging puppy and once was enough), so we contacted her and after considerable discussion, she brought 2 dogs for us to meet.  Well, we couldn’t decide which one was better, so we adopted both!

Do we like these people?

Transitioning to a two dog household has been interesting. They get along fabulously well with almost no squabbles. They share an xpen, they both sleep on the bed with us, they drink water out of the same bowl at the same time — but they don’t share food.  Ghita is afraid of the cats, but Boysen is a cat chaser — she will follow if he starts. They love to bark out the front window — we’re working on that. Fortunately they both live in terror of the dreaded water spritzer and all I have to do to stop a bad behavior is shake the bottle or (worst case scenario) spritz an adjacent plant. They walk beautifully together on lead, I can easily walk them around the block by myself. The one time I tried to have them both on flexi leads, they did try very hard to tie me up.

They are very smart dogs, very willing to please, very loving, very active, very agile and incredibly full of excess fluff. I’ve combed and vacuumed at least another Corgi off them and I’m not done yet.
